Hi, my name is Stuart Allsop, and this is my podcast, Crazy Wisdom, where I interview creative people about how they work with and manage the stress that is inherent in creative work. What I've realized over the past 10 years of my research is that anybody who is creating something of value that is significantly different from what has come before is considered crazy. Most of us have a fear, an ingrained fear of going crazy. So what I'm saying is grab onto that fear, realize that it's there, and just go with it. Because the problems we're going to be facing over the next 20 years require crazy people in order to solve them.
Welcome to the Crazy Wisdom Podcast. My guest here is Jan Bozarth, an author, producer, songwriter, and mom. She's got a long history of producing media for children and most recently has created Coded for Greatness that's aimed for young people a little bit older than the books she's previously written. So welcome to the show.
Good. So it sounds like you know a lot about creativity. You've been creating for a while. What is your favorite thing about creativity?
My favorite thing about creativity is this feeling of trying to get into a zone where you're connected not just to the work that you're doing, but to the inspiration behind the work. So as an example, the books that you mentioned in my introduction, the Fairy Godmother Academy books, which are for preteen girls, and then the subsequent series just about to come out called Coded for Greatness, are connected to the natural world. That was my inspiration. I wanted to write about kids who were very. Had powers that I call codes in the story, and their powers stem from lineages. So they find out about them. Sometimes they know about them, sometimes they don't. But they find out about their power to protect some aspect of the natural world. Water, trees, and as it turns out, very timely subject matter. But I started writing these books 10 years ago, so I'm, you know, sad that we have to be in the place that we're in, but happy to see the young people of the world stepping up to the plate.
