What is the intersection of healthcare, technology, and mindfulness? - Tracy Townsend (MD)

Part of that is because of this uniquely American system that we've inherited from William Halstead, who's considered the father of modern surgery and the modern surgical residency education. And so he was one of the founding fathers of Johns Hopkins Medical School, which is the first medical school in the country. And I read this fascinating article in one of the surgical journals about his life. It was a biography of his life. And he was a known cocaine addict because he used cocaine in part of his research for surgical anesthesia. He was also arguably a closeted homosexual, and he didn't have much of a personal life all throughout his career. You have a man who he did eventually marry, who largely didn't have a personal life, who was addicted to cocaine and was very serious about surgery and surgical education.
