What is a proper objective for human civilization? - Daniel Thorson: Emerge Podcast

Welcome to the Crazy Wisdom podcast. Today I interviewed Daniel Thorson, who is the host of the Emerge podcast and also is a resident of the Monastic Academy in Vermont. I recorded this at the family home on Fisher's island out in New York this summer. And I was introduced to Daniel by a former guest, B' Nai Gupta. And it seems to be we are at the precipice of a change in civilization. Something's gonna happen. It feels like something big is gonna happen. Some shift is. Seems like it's about to happen. And I'd say that this recording here is our attempt to figure out what that is. See, as human beings, we are constantly running an experiment to figure out what the hell we're doing here, what is our purpose, what is our meaning. And people have been trying to figure this out for a long time. And then you have globalization that happened in the 17, 1800s, and then with that globalization, scientific method. And, you know, you have Jung, you have Nietzsche, you have all these deep thinkers who are trying to figure out what the hell is going on. And so the beautiful part of that is that that's still going on. You are a part of this and you can contribute. It does help if you start to actually produce rather than just consume. And we're all a part of this figuring out essentially what the hell we're doing here and what is going on, what does it mean to live? These are all open questions and they're probably not going to get answered for a while. And then we have this thing, this technology that comes in and changes everything, and then culture adapts and then it's this back and forth interplay between these two things and, you know, what is going on?
