I'm gonna say that most people experience stress as negative emotion, right? Either the negative emotion makes them feel stressed, or they're feeling negative emotions as a result of stress. Doesn't matter. Let's just kind of say that people are aware of stress when they're feeling negative emotion in their life. And there's positive kinds of stress, too. We won't get into all that, but let's just go there for now. In my book, I call that a point of contrast, right? So a point of contrast is basically an unwanted experience in your life, something that, you know things are not going right and it's stressing you out, it's causing you to feel negative emotions. You're unhappy, you're afraid, angry, whatever it is, you've created a point of contrast. And the reason I call it a point of contrast is because it's contrasted with the experience that you want to have. So these points of contrast are really instructional. If you think that every experience of life is like the food at some buffet, you've never tried any of the foods before. You've got to try the ones you don't like, and you've got to try the ones you do like and so on. And when you figure out the ones you do like, you can get more of those. So these points of contrast help us home in on the life we would really like to have. So rather than think about stress as something negative or bad or think about these unwanted experiences as inherently evil, they're not. It's just. It's provided you with a point of contrast. You can now clearly say, I don't want that in my life, and it gets you even closer to what you do want in your life.
